Alex Jack Butchers in Stranraer is going for glory in the UK final of the Butchers Q Guild’s 2016 barbecue competition – the annual quest to find the undisputed BBQ kings.
Alex Jack Butchers won through to the speciality sausage national final with its Spicy Italian Sausage, purposely developed for this year’s completion by the Bridge Street shop’s fourth generation butcher Ian Jack.
“It was the first time I had used a special seasoning. It was originally meant to be a beef sausage, but I then decided to try it in a pork sausage. It has turned out remarkably well and we have high hopes our Scottish regional winner will go on to further success in the national final,” said Ian.
The shop, a long-standing member of the Q Guild – one of the earliest, in fact - was established in 1914 by Ian’s grandfather Alexander Jack, who was followed by his own son, also Alexander, with Ian himself becoming involved from the tender age of 13, when he delivered orders.
