Newton Stewart residents were in sandbagging their properties as a flood warning was issued ahead of a storm surge today.

Dumfries and Galloway Council urged residents to protect their properties and alert anyone who had been flooded before to do the same.

The threat comes just under a month after a severe flood caused devastation to many riverside properties.

The Riverside Car Park was closed to traffic and car owners were advised to move their vehicles.

The high tide was due at 1pm and river levels were being carefully monitored all day.

Around the coast villages were hit by the storm surge with flood water down Harbour Row in the Isle of Whithorn and the Main Street in Port William closed to traffic.
