Stagecoach will not axe Dumfries service despite rumours

Stagecoach is not axing the express bus service from Stranraer to Dumfries – but is ditching its direct service to Carlisle.

Stagecoach West Scotland said on Wednesday: “Our X75 service which operates between Stranraer, Dumfries and Carlisle, will now terminate at Dumfries.

“The service which operates one return trip a day, Monday to Saturday has been experiencing a decline in passenger numbers.

“Analysis of the service confirmed that only 9% of customers travelling on the route travelled to Carlisle. Therefore in order to secure the Stranraer to Dumfries section of the route it has been necessary to withdraw the journeys to Carlisle.

“Passengers travelling to Carlisle are advised to interchange at Dumfries where they can connect with the Stagecoach 79 service to Carlisle.”
