South Scene Preview with John McNaught

There are three South of Scotland League matches scheduled to be played this Saturday all of which are local derbies.

Creetown entertain Newton Stewart at Castle Cary Park for a match that could go close although the Creesiders have already came out on top on the two occasions the sides have met this season so far.

The Ferrytoon side though are more than capable of holding their own especially on their home pitch and with so many local youngsters within the ranks of both teams this contest looks like it could be a lively affair.

Dumfries YMCA are due to be rewarded for the way they seem to have turned things around but this weekends match against neighbours Crichton could be a bridge too far as the Hospital Park side are putting together a good run of results. However a rejuvenated YMCA team are expected to run their visitors close in a tight match.

Lochar Thistle are another team who have found a good run of form at present at present and will start as favourites to see off the challenge from Abbey Vale.

There are two first round and two second round ties taking place in the League Cup with the St Cuthbert Wanderers versus Edusport Academy match being the pick of the bunch. These two sides look the strongest this season so far and looking as though both will be among the silverware come the end of May next year. This contest could well take more than the regulation ninety minutes to find a winner with home advantage maybe being the deciding factor.

In the other second round match Wigtown and Bladnoch play hosts to Heston Rovers for what could well be another close run match. Home advantage could again play its part but the visitors will be looking to progress against a home side who are not the force that have been for the past two seasons.

In round one Fleet Star have Mid-Annandale as their visitors to Garries Park and although both sides are showing a bit of inconsistency so far this season it is well within the capabilities of the home side to win their way through to the next round of this particular competition.

Upper Annandale have Nithsdale Wanderers visiting them at Moffat for another match that could go close and in which the home team may just have the upper hand although the result could well be tight.
