A Wigtown woman with a dodgy knee will attempt top complete all 26.2 miles of the London Marathon next weekend to raise money for a charity close to her heart, Alzheimer Scotland.

Forty-four-year-old Sharon Milven has so far raised £2,260.00 for the charity and been in training for her attempt for a year.

Proud husband Gavin told the Galloway Gazette that Sharon has put her heart and soul into doing the marathon but her training schedule has recently been compromised due to a niggling knee problem.

He said: “Sharon has put a hell of a lot in this and she is determined to finish, even if she has to crawl over the line.”

Sharon said: “My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s approximately five years ago and this was a very difficult few years for mum and all the family.

“A support worker from Alzheimer Scotland came to talk to us and the biggest thing that she did was listen and understand what we were going through. She visited often and was always at the end of a phone if we needed someone to talk to. They were a great support and we would like to give something back, raising this money will give other families some of the much needed support that they will need.

“Up to two years ago I had never ran and never had any notion of doing anything like this before, do you remember that kid at school who was always last in every race on sports day? Well that was me....not a good feeling and certainly not something I would like to repeat. In the past year I have completed five 10k races and two half marathons.

“Please donate some money to Alzheimer Scotland by supporting me in my goal to complete the London Marathon.”
