Severe winds and rain hit Galloway

Borgue Primary School was closed today (Thursday) after a power cut hit the area in high winds.

Firefighters also had to help pump water from eight homes in Carsphairn and the Irish ferries were called off, leading to traffic disrpution around Stranraer and Cairnryan as lorries were stacked up to wether the storm.

The River cree burst its banks but the town centre was safe following works carried out to strengthen the retaining walls. New galloway’s CatStrand building was forced to close due to flodding.

More bad weather is forecast for the afternoon and snow and ice warnings have been issued for the coming days.
