Scottish Hotel Awards

A well-known hotel chain and two Wigtownshire guest houses all received prestigious awards at the Scottish Hotel Awards 2011 in Glasgow last Sunday night.

Stranraer company McMillan Hotels won a major award for Glenapp Castle and Gardens. The gold laurel was presented to Fay and Graham Cowan from Glenapp for recreating the beauty of the hotel and gardens while Cally Palace Hotel chef Jamie Muirhead won a special commendation for his work.

Rickwood House in Portpatrick won the Guest House Customer Care Award in the National Excellence Section while Hillcrest House in Wigtown won a real and local food cook commendation.

Fred Findlay from Rickwood House said: “Following our recent Gold Award from VisitScotland for exceptional customer care, we were overjoyed to learn of our further success in the Scottish Hotel Awards 2011 for National Excellence in Customer Care for Guest Houses. The award recognises our total commitment to doing all we can to contribute to the full enjoyment of our guests` precious holidays. We would like to thank all at ScotHot 2011 and all of our guests.”

Deborah Firth from Hillcrest said: “We are delighted, this is our forth year winning a food award and we do try to concentrate on producing a good quality home cooked meal using the very best of the local produce available - thanks, of course, to our local suppliers.”
