Sally Murray, from Stranraer, has been picked from hundreds of thousands of colleagues to be named Employee of the Year 2012 for Britain’s biggest retailer, Tesco.
Sally works as a Customer Assistant at the Tesco Metro in Charlotte Street. She was nominated by her Team manager for the fantastic work she’s done for her customers, supporting her team and the local community in Stranraer.
The judging panel was impressed with the initiative she showed to support a local daycare centre. When Sally found out it was struggling for funding, she quickly organised her colleagues to donate items for a raffle that very week, just one example of the many activities Sally has organized within the community.
Sally collected her award for Employee of the Year 2012 at a ceremony in London on Monday night.
Accepting the title, she said: “I’m so proud to receive this award. The team at Tesco Stranraer are fantastic and they are always willing to support my schemes for the local community. To receive this award just for doing my job is amazing.”
Judith Nelson, Personnel Director at Tesco said “Every day our colleagues work hard to give the best possible service to customers. Some employees really do go above and beyond the call of duty. We are exceptionally proud of Sally and this award is our way of recognising her and saying ‘thank you’. Congratulations Sally!”
It has been an exciting month for Sally as she was one of the Olympic Torch bearers that carried the Olympic Flame through Ballantrae two weeks ago. She was nominated for the honour due to her charity work.
