Over £8,000 was raised for Rotary projects following a highly successful fundraising evening at The Cocoa Bean, Twynholm on Friday.

Over 150 guests attended the Sporting Dinner, welcomed by president Dr John Locke before all tucking into a three course dinner which was followed by informative and amusing talks from Dr John Rankin, past president of Stirling Rotary and from Alan Bell, The Chief Starter at the London Olympic Games and this year’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The evening was ably handled by compere Maurice Halliday, including an amusing session of Irish Bingo. Thanks to the generosity of many donors, the auction prizes resulted in keen bidding, with auctioneer David Mitchell encouraging some very healthy bids from the floor.

The total funds raised will be used by the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright to help International projects in India and Africa) and to support local Youth Service projects, including meeting the costs of sending local young people on leadership and business awareness courses.

President John closed the evening by expressing grateful thanks to all for their support.
