RIB rescue at Whithorn

Kirkcudbright Lifeboat “The Sheila Stenhouse” was called out on Saturday 11th June at 5.01am to a broken down RIB some five or six miles south of Isle of Whithorn.

The crew were given a position of the casualty which was updated on route.

The vessel could only be sighted when the lifeboat was approximately one mile from the casualty which had drifted some considerable distance. The 6.5 metre rib had three persons on board who were on passage from the Isle of Mann TT races to the Isle of Whithorn.

The three crew from Lutterworth in Leictershire were wet and cold but did not require any medical assistance. This was another long service for the Sheila Stenhouse having covered 42 miles on completion.

This summer Kirkcudbright and Kippford Lifeboats are running a recruitment drive to encourage new members to the crews. Full training is given and the crews are made up of people from all walks of life. Anyone interested please contact Kirkcudbright LOM John Collins on 01557331475 or email Kirkcudbright@rnli.org.uk
