Renewable energy developer RES has submitted an appeal to the Scottish Government for Barcloy Hill Wind Farm located between Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright.

The five turbine project was refused by Dumfries and Galloway Council in July.

John Appleton, RES Development Project Manger, commented: “RES has decided to appeal Dumfries and Galloway Council’s refusal of the application; as set out in our Statement of Appeal to the Scottish Government we believe the council has over-stated the potential landscape and visual effects and we are confident that we can resolve the objection from National Air Traffic Control Services (NATCS).

“We are committed to developing and building wind projects that maximise this important natural energy source whilst at the same time having a low impact on the local environment and benefiting local communities. Barcloy Hill Wind Farm is no exception.”

The appeal is now with the Department of Planning and Environmental Appeals at the Scottish Government and a decision is expected in spring 2015.
