Details of the plans for a zero waste region, including the delivery of various recycling boxes for each household, will be making their way into the community over the coming months.
Dumfries and Galloway Council, along with Zero Waste Scotland, are aiming to encourage kerbside recycling by every household and are currently embarking on a series of community information strategies.
All 89 community councils will be written to and presentations will be held in September, with a projected roll-out of the Zero Waste strategy beginning in Wigtownshire in January 2014, and the Stewartry in August 2014.
Households will be provided with information on what can and can’t be recycled as well as collection dates for waste.
It is expected that 30 new jobs will be created through the move and that as well as kerbside recycling, locals will be encouraged to use receycling centres, reuse products and prevent waste.
