Random assault in Stranraer street

A teenager who inflicted a drunken random assault on a man in the streets of Stranraer was sent to prison for 16 months by Sheriff Daniel Kelly at the court in Stranraer this week.

John McColm, 19, a prisoner at Polmont, admitted
repeatedly punching and kicking Michael Paterson on the head and body in George Street on July 13.

He also admitted resisting arrest the same night in Princes Street. The court was shown CCTV footage of the complainer walking down George Street towards the town centre when suddenly the accused lurched across the street towards him and attacked him, knocking him to the ground, before wandering off.

Agent Paul Feeney said that McColm was so drunk he has
no recollection of the attack or being arrested.
