The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a rabbit was found on wasteland in Stranraer.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was contacted by a resident of Dalrymple Street who discovered the rabbit near his garden on Tuesday (22 April).

The white and grey male rabbit is now in the care of Dunragit Kennels in the town, who care for and rehome animals on behalf of the Scottish SPCA.

Inspector Andrea Middleton said, “At this stage we don’t know whether this rabbit has gone missing from home or been abandoned. He had a weeping eye so I took him to a local vets to be checked over, where they advised they had now heard of three rabbits being found in the area recently.

“It therefore seems there has either been a spate of escapees or people dumping their pets.

“We’d encourage anyone who recognises this rabbit or has any information to contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
