Praise has been offered to local head teachers and library staff for helping Dumfries and Galloway Council find temporary homes for groups being decanted from the NcMillan Hall this month.

As part of major renovations to the hall, community groups have been turfed out amid health and safety fears and Karen Brownlie from the council, who has been tasked with ensuring all groups are given alternative premises, said this week all such groups have been found a suitable home.

At Cree Valley Community Council’s Monday evening meeting – their last in the hall until renovations are complete – Miss Brownlie offered her personal thanks to Alec Cowie at the Ewart, Joy Bell and Minnigaff Primary and Louise Philips at Penninghame Primary as well as staff at Newton Stewart Library.

The hall will close to the public for seven months from April 20.
