LAST week the sun shone brightly and with just over 100 eager volunteers, Port William Primary School pupils, staff and parent helpers headed off to clean up their village.
The pupils were taking part in the Keep Scotland beautiful “Spring Clean” campaign.
split up into four groups, with black bags, gloves, litter pickers, clip boards, the volunteers headed to their allocated areas.
All the volunteers worked extremely hard all afternoon, collecting sweetie papers, plastic bottles, wood, rope, cans, wrappers, paper and some unusual objects. Some dog owners had even left unsavory little bags to be picked up, yuck!
At the end of the day, everyone met back at the school. The teams had collected over 30 bags of rubbish. A vote of thanks was given by head teacher Mrs Blakeman, photo’s were taken and then everyone was buzzing with excitement when they were told that Greggs the bakers had given the pupils some delicious millionaire shortbread as a special thank you treat!
