Police in Galloway are clamping down on disqualified drivers in an operation to stamp out illegal motorists on the roads.
Officers warned this week that they plan to come down hard on anyone caught driving throughout their period of disqualification.
Inspector Neil Hewitson of the road policing unit said: “It is totally irresponsible for a driver to take to the roads whilst they are disqualified from holding a licence to drive.
“Anyone caught driving in such conditions will be dealt with severely, arrested, and reported to the procurator fiscal.
“if you are disqualified from holding a licence to allow you to drive, and you do drive, you will also be doing so without holding the required insurance cover, and again this matter will be reported to the procurator fiscal.
“The public should be aware that anyone driving in such conditions, and who collide with a third party while not being insured, will cause that third party a great deal of expense. Anyone in the community who is aware of a driver who drives while disqualified should call us on 101 and report the matter. They can also call us through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they wish to remain anonymous. Disqualified drivers are a danger on our roads and with the help of the public we can make sure they are caught and dealt with through the courts.”
