Police brand injury to woman ‘despicable offence’

A 30 year old local man appeared from custody at Stranraer Sheriff Court today following a robbery in which a woman was injured.

David Forsyth appeared in private before the sheriff charged with robbery and assault to injury after an alleged robbery from a flat in Caledonia Court at 12.30pm on Friday. He made no plea or declaration and the case was continued. Forsyth was remanded in custody.

Stranraer Police have assured the public that such incidents remain a very rare occurrence in the town, and thanked the public for their response to our request for assistance. The victim is recovering well, although she has some minor injuries and was very badly shaken.

A spokesman said: “This was a despicable offence, and officers have been working very hard over the past few days to apprehend the culprit. It is at times like this that the community spirit in Stranraer really comes to the fore, with local people only too happy to assist their local police officers in their efforts to detect such a serious crime. We are grateful for the response of all those who helped with information.”
