Pensioners in Wigtown were left without access to their money for 10 days after an exchange fault blocked transactions in Wigtown Post Office.
Various unsuccesful attempts were made by engineers from both BT and the comapny that supplied the computer but the problem persisted until a BT enginrer finally traced the fault back to the exchange.
Post Office owner Brian Vogan told The Galloway Gazette: “The computer went down on October 10th and it was only back up yesterday (Monday 10th).
There was only a limited amount of things I could do but worst of all we could not pay out pensions. Anyone wanting their pension had to go elsewhere.
“Now that we are back up and running I am really glad. From a business point of view, obviously, but more so for the pensioners.”
