An NHS Dumfries & Galloway pharmacy team has picked up a top industry accolade at the highly-esteemed annual Scottish Pharmacist Awards – the profession’s leading awards ceremony, which recognises the contribution of Scotland’s pharmacy champions.

Over the last year, the entire Dumfries & Galloway Hospital Pharmacy team has worked to improve its internal and external communication model, including the introduction of an electronic prescribing system and seven-day working.

The new systems that have been introduced have ensured that the required workforce with the correct skills are now allocated to high pressure areas, pre-empting surge issues and consequently reducing stress on staff and improving outcomes for patients! Now, the team’s hard work has been recognised with the presentation of the very prestigious Hospital Pharmacy Team of the Year award, which was supported by Alliance Healthcare.

More than 450 professionals gathered at the annual event at Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre to hear who would walk away with a prestigious ‘Chemi’ award.

Once again this year, a huge number of entries were received from every Health Board in Scotland across all eight categories: Pharmacist of the Future; Pharmacy Support Staff Member; Innovation and Change in Pharmacy Practice; Pharmacy Business Development; Pharmacist of the Year; Management of Long-Term Conditions; Community Pharmacy Team of the Year and Hospital Pharmacy Team of the Year.

In addition there was the Merit Award which recognises an individual for their Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy.
