Norovirus breaks out once again at Infirmary

THE ‘winter vomiting’ bug norovirus has once again broken out at Dumfries Infirmary and relatives are being asked to avoid visiting patients there.

A spokesman for NHS Dumfries and Galloway confirmed the suspected case today and said five patients were affected.

He added: “Appropriate Infection Control measures have been introduced and the ward is now closed to new admissions and transfers. The hospital’s Infection Control team continue to monitor the situation closely.

In order to minimise the risk of further spread we are requesting that visitors intending to travel to visit patients in Ward 10 refrain from doing so - if they have concerns about not visiting and wish reassurance they are advised to contact ward 10 direct for advice.

“The Board apologies for any distress or inconvenience this may cause, but is grateful in anticipation of the ongoing co-operation of the public in adhering to the hand hygiene and infection control measures being out in place.”
