A falling school roll may see the end of Drochduil School near Dunragit by next summer.
A report to councillors ahead of next Tuesday’s education committee meeting states that the school currently has three pupils with no new pupils coming to the school after the summer holidays next year. Drochduil has operated as part of a cluster with Castle Kennedy Primary School since 2012.
Dumfries and Galloway Council education officers are suggesting it would now be prudent to consult with the users and the community over a proposal to close the school on a permanent basis.
The remaining pupils have already requested a transfer to another school at the start of the new term in July 2016.
Should the closure be agreed after the consultation process, the staff members who work at the school would be offered redeployment, the building declared surplus to education needs and passed to the council’s property and architectural services department and the long term transport needs of pupils reviewed.
