THE skill and hard work of local young musicians has once again been recognised and rewarded as competitors from Glentrool to Annan travelled to Dumfries to compete against others from around the area in the Rotary Young Musician Competition.

As in previous years, the standard of the competition was very high, demanding exceptional grace under pressure from each student to perform in their class.

The winner of the Vocal section was Kathryn Alexander from Dumfries, with runner up Leona Evans from Annan. Rebekah Donn, Newton Stewart, performed well to win the Instrumental section, with a close runner up of Bethany Paterson from Annan. All four go forward to the District 1020 Competition on Sunday 20th March at Stewart’s Melville College Performing Arts Centre in Edinburgh.

Young Musician is only one of many events run by Rotary to allow young people to demonstrate and develop their skills and talents. It is a pleasure to be able to support and promote young people who are participating in their local community in such a positive way. The Rotary Club of Newton Stewart is made up of professionals within the community who seek to help both the local area and build relationships worldwide.
