ELECTED member will be asked by council officers to approve the creation of two disabled parking bays in Newton Stewart’s Victoria Street at next Wednesday’s council meeting despite strong objections from a local trader.
The parking bays are earmarked for outside the Cinema and Galloway Pet Foods, at 33, 35 and 37 Victoria Street. But a trader in the immediate vicinity has written to DG First to complain that disabled parking at the spot will hamper deliveries to their business as lorries will have to double park on the street causing serious congestion. They are asking the council to reconsider the location.
The proposed disabled parking bays have already been relocated after the original plan to have them situated outside the RBS building on the other side of Victoria Street raised objections from the police and the chairman of the Dumfries and Galloway Access Panel.
