Mull buy-out on track

The Mull of Galloway Community Buy-out is still on track to take place on the 29th June, when the Kirkmaiden Community become the proud owners of the 30-acre Mull of Galloway Lighthouse estate.

The Mull of Galloway Trust, a company set up by the community for the community with the sole purpose of making the purchase, has organised an official hand over on American Independence Day, Thursday, July 4.

Chairperson of the Trust Maureen Chand said: ”We have worked hard over the past 18 months and it is great to see all this hard work coming to fruition. We thought that we had to celebrate the community buy out in a manner that is befitting this historical occasion. The actual sale should go through on the 28th of this month, but the date of the formal take over from the present owners, the Northern Lighthouse Board, is Independence Day, a date that should stick in people’s memory. The actual ceremony of cutting a ribbon at the boundary gate by Ian Webster of NLB will take place at 11.30am in the presence of invited guests, who will then have an opportunity to see what the community has purchased.”

Although the buffet lunch at the Gallie Craig coffee house is restricted to invited guests, the Trust hopes that as many members of the community will come along to watch and take part in the hand over. There will be free access to the Tower and Exhibition until 1pm that day and everyone is invited along.
