JIM Hume, Scottish Liberal Democrat South Scotland MSP, recently met with Ofcom to press the case for local and regional programming across Dumfries and Galloway after the recent announcement that the new channel 3 licence is to be renewed.
Mr Hume said: “When the announcement was made at the end of last month, Culture Secretary Maria Millar MP warned that there could be a difference in content received by viewers in the South of Scotland compared with elsewhere in the country. Many viewers will be concerned by this statement.
“There is an overwhelming groundswell of support for local and regional content across Dumfries and Galloway, and indeed, Ofcom’s own research demonstrates that very well.
“As Ofcom negotiates the new licences, it’s crucial that viewers in the south west do not see their regional and local programming compromised.”
