Jim Hume, Scottish Liberal Democrat South Scotland MSP, said this week that SNP MSPs on the Scottish Parliament’s justice committee now have no option but to vote down their government’s plans to close Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court given the huge opposition from residents.

Mr Hume made the comments ahead of a demonstration outside the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday.

Mr Hume said: “There’s nowhere left to go for the SNP, but to accept the fact that people think closing sheriff courts is bad for local justice.

“The only way to guarantee locally delivered justice is for SNP MSPs on the justice committee to vote down their own government’s proposals when they come before the committee in eight days’ time.

“SNP MSPs must do the right thing and vote to protect Kirkcudbright Court.”
