Motor dealer dies in forest
A MOTOR DEALER who died this week is thought to have suffered a heart attack while cycling near Kirroughtree Visitor Centre.
Stewart Robertson, managing director of the Robertson Gemini garage in Castle Douglas, suffered the attack while out with a friend.
The alarm was raised but paramedics were unable to help him and the 60-year-old died at the scene.
Mr Roberston was a keen rally driver for many years and competed in local and national events.
He won numerous events, including the Galloway Hills Rally in 1989 in his Metro 6R4, and for many years was partnered by Lawrance Clark, who worked with him at the garage at Dalbeattie.
He was also a long-time member of the Solway Car Club and had been its chairman in 1985 as well as being involved in various other aspects of the club's organisation.
Mr Robertson re-located his Robertson Gemini company to Cotton Street in Castle Douglas approximately 16 years ago.
Previously, Mr Robertson had traded in Dalbeattie as William S Robertson since 1971, taking over the family business from his father and grandfather
Mr Robertson, whose home is at Kippford, is survived by his wife and twin sons who are 19.
