McLeod welcomes Scottish dairy brand

SNP MSP for the South of Scotland Aileen McLeod has welcomed the announcement that a Scottish dairy brand will be launched later this year to promote Scottish produce at home and abroad and provide additional support to Scotland’s dairy farmers.

Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs Richard Lochhead has announced that he will publish a detailed diary action plan shortly, which will contain plans for the dairy brand in addition to other measures to promote Scottish products.

Aileen said: “I welcome this announcement from the Scottish Government – it will provide real and lasting support for local dairy farmers as well as boosting the Scottish economy. This will make it easier for consumers to choose Scottish products first.

“Scotland’s food and drink industry is world-renowned and this new dairy brand will further help showcase Scotland’s exceptional produce and allow farmers to further capitalise on this fantastic reputation through more export opportunities.

“Dairy farmers play a vital role in both the local and national economy and I know that this show of support from the Scottish Government will be welcomed by farmers.”
