Manpower and gravel should see path fixed

A meeting is to be set up between landowners and community councillors with a view to resolving repair issues on a popular path in Newton Stewart.

The Windsor Road path, linking Ewart Drive to Windsor Road, has been in need of repairs for years but council officials have been unable to find funding towards it.

Councillor Jim McColm said: “We don’t need a pavement and lighting here, we’re talking about fixing up the parts that get a bit too muddy in the winter, and that would only need some gravel.”

Council member Clifford Smithers said there was a possibility of gravel being made available from a local quarry and it was noted that criminal justice teams confirmed they would make manpower available through court-ordered community payback orders.

A meeting will now be set up to progress the suggestions made.
