A MAN appeared in court on Tuesday charged with murdering missing 19-year-old Stranraer woman Hazel North and hiding her body in a park.

John Davis, 25, allegedly assaulted Hazel and struck her on the head and body, injuring her, at his home in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, on February 2.

He is also accused of assaulting and murdering Hazel, by means unknown, at his flat in the town’s Northcraig Road between February 28 and March 23.

Davis is also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice by concealing her body in Dean Park, Kilmarnock, and failing to report the death to the authorities.

He is further accused at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court of assaulting police sergeant Thomas Brown to his severe injury.

Solicitor, Michael Kilkerr said Davis made no plea nor declaration during the brief, private appearance and was remanded in custody by Sheriff Alistair Watson for further investigation.

Davis is expected to make a second court appearance next Tuesday.
