Man arrested after 14-hour siege

Police Scotland report that a 55-year-old man has been taken into safe custody after he was arrested in his home in Syme Road in Dumfries following a siege at the house.

It was reported that armed officers were on the scene in Lochside. Officers arrived from Glasgow to assist and it was believed the man is alone in the house.

Trained negotiators had talked with the man throughout the night and at about 10.30am today he was arrested at the house.

Superintendent Bobby Moore said: “While this was protracted incident which lasted moire than 14 hours, the immediate area was cordoned off very quickly by officers and the public were at no time in any danger.”
