THE 56-year old man charged with murdering David Brown in Minnigaff at the weekend has been named as Paul McCann from Newton Stewart.
McCann made no plea or declaration and the case has been continued. He was remanded in custody.
Police were alerted to a disturbance at a house on McGregor Drive in Minnigaff at 12.15am on Saturday. On their arrival they discovered local 40 year old, David Brown, with serious injuries. Despite receiving First Aid at the scene, Mr Brown succumbed to his injuries and died.
Detective Inspector Mark Hollis said: “Everything points to this being an isolated incident. We believe the suspect and victim knew each other and we have now arrested a man in relation to the death.
“We would remind the public that these types of crimes are extremely rare in the region. A number of witnesses have already been traced and we are grateful for the response we have received from the public however we are keen for the strong support in the local community to continue.

Tributes have been paid at the scene on Mr Brown’s work, The Galloway Arms on Victoria Street in Newton Stewart, in the form of flowers, teddy bears and notes.
