Gardening and railway enthusiast Louise Wall from Newton Stewart was rewarded recently for his volunteer work at railway stations in Ayrshire.
Louis spends at lot of time creating beautiful floral displays at stations like Barrhill and Irvine and scooped three awards at the Community Rail Awards held in Landudno recently. Mr Wall won a highly commended certificate in the ‘Passengers Matter’ category for planting lemon eucalyptus at Barrhill station. Its strong aroma has helped drive away midges. He also won the ‘Best Station Volunteers Project 2013’ for his transformation of Irvine station. The project at Irvine also won Mr Wall and the rest of the South West Railway Adopters Garden Group the best project in the UK award.
Me Wall said: “This is a real honour for everyone who has helped improve the station environment at Irvine and Barrhill. It makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
