It was with a heavy heart that I noticed the first red squirrel casualties of 2012 at Penninghame this week, two killed within feet of each other.
As I drive this road regularly, deaths of red squirrels are, unfortunately, an all too common occurrence.
As these animals are in serious decline surely there must be something which could be done to help them. It seems that Penninghame has a good population of these endearing little creatures but at this rate any births will be cancelled out by deaths on the road. Does anyone have any suggestions?
