Landowner fined after buzzard death

A Wigtownshire landowner was fined £675 by Sheriff Kenneth Robb at Stranraer Sheriff Court today after pleading guilty to four breaches of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 after the death of a protected bird on his estate.

Robin Johnston Stewart, 66, of Physgill House, Whithorn, admitted that, between December 23, 2012, and March 3 2013, a person in his employment killed a buzzard by planting poison in a pheasant carcass which was subsequently ingested by the buzzard.

He also pled guilty to his employee being found in possession of the banned pesticides carbofura, strychnine and alphachloralose on March 5, 2013.
