A Kirkudbright lorry driver who raped and assaulted a woman in London has been jailed for nine years.
Steven Murdoch, 36, attacked the 30-year-old woman as she was out with friends in Romford on 20 September.
Having become separated from the group, she was alone when Murdoch hit her over the head, threw her over his shoulder and ran to a nearby rugby club where he had parked his car. When she tried to call 999, he punched her in the stomach, forced her to perform a sexual act and repeatedly raped her on a concrete ramp.
He then broke down in tears and apologised before handing back her phone and letting her call for help, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard. He was later traced to a relative’s home in Dumfries and arrested.
