KIRKCUDBRIGHT Hospital has been saved following a review of potential service delivery measures by NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

Five cottage hospitals across the region had been in the firing line, including Kirkcudbright, which caused widespread outrage but now the board have agreed to keep them open following the results of public consultation.

John Burns, Chief Executive, NHS Dumfries and Galloway: “The NHS Board has given careful consideration to the views, comments and opinions expressed from right across the region. Whilst remaining firmly committed to the vision and broad strategic aims of the Clinical Services Strategy, the NHS Board has listened to the key issues raised with us during the engagement and consultation process – what people said they supported, what they wanted, and what they were concerned about.”
