Minnigaff resident John Maxwell handed over a cheque to the Riverside Day Centre in Newton Stewart this week to help boost their funds.
The money was raised at John’s 90th birthday party held in the Bruce Hotel earlier this month where he asked for donations instead of presents and collected a total of £385.00 which was handed over to delighted day centre staff member Nan Wilson.
The board of the day centre recently appealed to the public for financial help to keep the centre open after the Dumfries and Galloway Council and NHS D&G plan to cut their finding from April 2014.
The Riverside Centre, Riverside Road, Newton Stewart is a place for older people to meet and offers a chance to participate in various activities and is open from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
