The owners, multi-national corporation, Gentex, say contract delays have led to its decision to reduce its workforce by ‘around 30’ in the UK.

HISL employs approximately 200 people within two UK facilities, in Letchworth Garden City and Stranraer.

The factory produces jet pilot and helicopter pilot helmets and other aircrew and passenger helmets for use in both civil and military, Air Purifying Respirators, Fire Helmets and riot helmets used by police. The factory is owned the Gentex Corporation, a global provider of personal protection for defence forces, emergency responders and industrial personnel.

The 100 year-old, US based company maintains a worldwide distributor network and seven facilities, two in the UK and five in the US.

A statement from Gentex said: “Given current contract delays for certain lines of products produced in the UK, we’re proactively adjusting our workforce there to maintain the strength of our overall UK operations, and to allow enough lead-time for affected employees to positively transition.

“We expect the number of affected employees to be around 30, which is less than 0.03% of Gentex’s total global workforce.

“These contract delays do not impact other areas of Gentex’s businesses, which remain strong across the enterprise.”

Helmet Integrated Systems Ltd was acquired by Gentex in 2014.
