The first meeting of the re-established Cree Valley Community Council took place at the McMillan Hall on Monday evening.
Dumfries and Galloway Council Officer Stephen Jack acted as Returning Officer for the evening to get a committee in place.
There were two nominations from the floor for the chairman’s role and, after a vote, Clifford Smithers was appointed to the position. Bob Boan was appointed as vice-chairman unopposed as was secretary Morag McIlwraith and treasurer Richard Kay.
Also present at the meeting were community councillors Anthony Berretti; Jim Brown; Neil Cairns; Mary McMillan; William Cannon and Mary Bennewith.
Many items of business were deferred, but it was agreed to get an application form filled in and returned to Dumfries and Galloway Council by August 5 to apply for a discretionary grant. The next ordinary meeting will be on Wednesday, July 20 at 7pm and an extraordinary general meeting to adopt a constitution will take place on Wednesday, August 3 at 7pm.
