A wall on the harbour master’s office in Kirkcudbright is to be used for hanging memorial plaques to those lost at sea.

Dumfries and Galloway Council agreed to the request following an appeal from a woman whose brother went missing in the Irish Sea off Holyhead after the fishing boat he was working on departed from Kirkcudbright last January. His body was never found.

Steven Robertson, from Dalbeattie, was aboard the St Amant which was later criticised for its lacking safety features.

His sister, Emma, now wishes to remember her brother in a plaque which will be dedicated on 7 April at 3pm, alongside a dedication of the wall.

A memorial to those lost at sea already stands by the harbour master’s office but has no facilities for naming lost loved ones.
