Police Scotland officers in Dalbeattie are investigating the source of a number of gunshots.
The shots were heard in the area of the quarry at the Town Wood in the town sometime around 1900 hours on Friday 13 May 2016.
At that time a woman heard around eight shots coming from the area around the quarry.
On looking towards the area she saw a young white male, 14-16 years, with dark brown hair and wearing a grey hooded top raise his head, and then duck down out of sight in the area of the quarry.
Constable Colin McMillan at Dalbeattie said: “We attended the area of the quarry after the report of shots and heard further shots. After a search no-one was traced.
“It is unknown at this time as to whether the shots may have come from a bird scarer or an actual weapon.
“Anyone who can help resolve the source of these shots should call us at Dalbeattie on the 101 non-emergency number.”
