Galloway Activity Centre, on the banks of Loch Ken, has commissioned two ‘eco bothies’ to add to its range of lodges, cabins, yurts and camping pitches.
Designed by local Galloway architect Sam Booth, the bothies are self-sustaining and fully off-grid apart from their water supply. They are each heated with a log burner, which also provides hot water to the outdoor eco hot tubs, and insulated with lamb’s wool, while solar power provides the lighting.
The bothies came to life following expert advice from Resource Efficient Scotland, a programme of Scottish Government-funded Zero Waste Scotland. See www.resourceefficientscotland.com
