BALLARD’s Butchers in Castle Douglas can rest safe in the knowledge that they have the best pies in the area after scooping two gold awards in the Scotch Pie Club Awards.
Coming fourth for the whole of Scotland, just behind butchers in Thornhill, Galashiels and Glasgow, the King Street shop managed to land gold for both their Scotch pie and bridie
On top of that the shop also scooped a silver for their game pie and a bronze for their cheesy haggis pie.
Jimmy Craig told the Gazette: “To pick up any awards at all at these competitions is fantastic as the level of entries is so high and of such a great standard.
“We’re delighted to win and it shows we’re right at the top of our game. To be given anything in recognition of our work is wonderful but to have two golds is just amazing.”
All the meat used by the firm is local and all the winning entries are made locally, along with all other stock.
