The association wants to promote water sports to all ages.

Stranraer Water Sports Association was primarily developed to support the development of water sports in the area.

At the helm is a very keen dinghy sailor, David Davis, supported by a committee with representation of most of the water sports presently using Loch Ryan including dinghy sailing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boards, sub aqua, water skiing, jet skiing, kite surfing, sea fishing and bird watching.

The first project is to purchase two rowing skiffs in kit form.

These hopefully will be built with input from the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

It is hoped that a shed can be built with the support of Apex Scotland and the local council within the compound at Stranraer Marina and that these crafts can be built and sailed within the Loch.

The association aim to develop a membership that embraces both water related and social activities and is open to both its members and visitors to develop Stranraer as a holiday destination and to create an association that embraces all ages and social groups, speciafically taking positive steps to encourage participation of disabled persons.

A ‘Push The Boat Out’ event is being held on Sunday 22nd May from 10am-4pm wind and weather permitting so if you are interested would like to give it a try then come along to the slip at Agnew Park next to the Harbour Masters Office and give it a go,
