Loreburn Housing Association celebrated the launch of the redevelopment of the site of the former Garrick Hospital in Stranraer last week.
The innovative development will include dementia-friendly housing as well as an innovative Youth Foyer.
The project will see the creation of eight one-bed and four two-bed dementia-friendly homes. Built nearby will be the Youth Foyer which will offer supported accommodation for up to 12 young people to combat youth homelessness and increase employment opportunities.
Lorraine Usher, Loreburn’s Chief Executive: “Foyers are recognised as international best practice, providing safe and secure housing, support and training for young people aged 16 -25. The Stranraer Foyer is a first for Dumfries and Galloway.
Young people living at the Foyer will be encouraged to access education, volunteering, or other employment and training opportunities. Loreburn are in discussion with local employers to help shape a whole range of volunteering options within the local community for residents.
Lord Lieutenant John Alexander Ross officiated at the event.
