Ann Sherry from Minnigaff has a wonderful collection of old photographs of Newton Stewart and she has kindly loaned some of them to the Galloway Gazette for this feature.
This one shows the view up Arthur Street in the early 1900’s. Murchie’s Garage is on the left and on the other side stands Griffin’s high class Boot and Shoe Warehouse.
Two weeks ago we had a picture of riders and horses enjoying themselves in the Galloway countryside. Noreen White, called in to say the girl on the right is her daughter Patricia White on horse Vanella, the girl beside is Jane Fox (horse unknown) and on the white pony is Pamela White. It was at Challoch Farm, where the White family lived, about 50 years ago and it was a hunt trial, not a hunt.
