Preparations are under way for the 100th Galloway Music Festival to be held in March 2014.
Among the initiatives being developed to mark the anniversary, a centenary booklet is to be published as a keepsake and a record of what has been achieved in the past.
Some participants from former years have already submitted memorabilia, which makes fascinating viewing and reading, but the organisers have appealed for help in filling the gaps. They says there is very little material dating from 1930-60, and are appealing to anyone who can help provide some recollection of that time. It includes, of course, the years before and after the Second World War.
The festival owes its success to the dedication, commitment and sheer hard work of a committee, together with friends and volunteers. And they need help if the future of the festival is to be secured. The committee would welcome some additional input, and in particular some younger blood with new ideas and energy.
If you think you could offer any of this and the relevant skills, not necessarily musical ones, contact the chairwoman, Anne Hamilton, on 01671 402528. Alternatively, visit the website www.gallowaymusicfestival.org.uk.
