Future of Kirkcudbright school bus route ‘encouraging’

Following some concern about the stability of the bus route taking children to and from Kirkcudbright Academy from Newton Stewart and Creetown, concerned parents have organised a focus group.

The group met for the second time last week and were very grateful to members of ABC travel for attending the meeting for discussions about their concerns. A group spokesperson said: “It became clear at the meeting that ABC travel is committed to the continuation of this route and is keen to work with parents to ensure that parents and children continue to be able to exercise their right to choice in education, even though living in a rural area such as this.”

ABC travel representative Ashley King said it was encouraging that communication links have been formed between parents and bus company and both parties are keen to keep this going into the future. She added that children using the bus service should be encouraged to buy a weekly ticket to help with the costings although day tickets would still be accepted where necessary.

Another meeting will take place at the beginning of the next academic year. Any parents wishing more information about this can contact Kirkcudbright Academy to be put in contact with link parents Lucy Gurling or Andrea Williams.
